Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is looking to increase his profile in the United States, and he’s partnering with rap mogul Jay-Z to do it.
The German national team member is in New York City as the beneficiary of a partnership between SAM sports, the agency that has represented Boateng, with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation’s sports division. The idea is for Roc Nation to help promote Boateng stateside and gain traction with advertising opportunities in the market.
Boateng announced the move on Twitter. In an interview with the German paper Bild , Boateng was excited about the possibilities of the partnership.
"America is a big market,” he said. “I am glad that I was invited.”
Boateng mentioned he was looking forward to meeting “new people” in America, and exploring what is possible in the U.S. And another member of Roc Nation sports, boxer Miguel Cotto, extended his welcome to the agency.In addition, Boateng’s trip to New York included VIP access to a Mary J. Blige concert and drinks at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club to celebrate the deal.SAM sports is owned by a former Bayern player and sporting director, Christian Nerlinger, and recently put together the partnership with the Roc Nation sports division.
