Kia unveils made-in-Nigeria Sorento

The unveiling of an all-new Kia Sorento on Tuesday in Lagos has become one of the highpoints of the 10th Lagos motor and auto part show.

This is exciting because it is the first locally assembled sport utility vehicle to be introduced by the representative of the Korean manufacturing company in Nigeria, Dana Motors. And it has chosen to launch it in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of the country.
As witnessed in most auto shows in other parts of the world, the introduction of new vehicles by auto manufacturers or their representatives is always the main attraction for visitors to the event.
Although this year may not have recorded the large turnout of participants expected at the annual Lagos event, some analysts note that the presence of Toyota Nigeria Limited, the leader in the industry, with a few prominent players like Kia displaying current and new models, has enabled the show to retain its usual glamour.
Kia, which describes the made-in-Nigeria Sorento as iconic, says its teeming customers will find the vehicle very roomy, comfortable and exciting.
The unveiling of the SUV, the firm said in a statement, was in fulfilment of its promise to locally produce Kia vehicles in the country, adding that for over a decade now, Kia had remained the leading Korean brand in Nigeria by offering the best in class, cutting-edge technology and at affordable prices.
It said, “The all-new Sorento, revealed overseas for the first time at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, has continued to reel in different awards globally for its outstanding and iconic automotive technology, which include the prestigious iF Product Design Award and Reddot Award 2015. The Kia Sorento unites the classic poise of an SUV with a premium look and a feel that is particularly tangible in the cabin. It offers the very highest design quality and excellent value for money.
“The all-new Kia Sorento is redesigned with a sleeker exterior; the Sorento exudes sophistication with an edge. It has a wider stance and longer wheelbase for even more versatile cabin space with available seating for up to seven. The Sorento is one highly stylised, modern utility vehicle with improved handling and dynamic power.”
The firm said the new Sorento came with two engine types, which it gave as the fuel-efficient 2.4-litre four-cylinder with its impressive performance and the 3.3-litre V6 AWD offering 5,000-pound towing capacity.
It said, “With the available Dynamax All-Wheel-Drive system, the Sorento delivers a smooth, refined drive even on rough roads. It presents two engine trims to fully customise your experience.
“The 2015 Sorento guarantees comfort at its peak. It’s a spacious cabin with clean, modern styling. It’s driver-focused, featuring a 14-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. From Nappa leather seat trim to the quality soft-touch materials, the Sorento offers premium comfort everywhere you go.”
